The 330 is the 275's more useful sibling: identical footprint, seven inches taller, twenty percent more product. If your racking and your door clearance allow it, it is nearly always the better buy per gallon.

The short answer
A 330 gallon IBC tote holds 1,249 litres, measures 48" × 40" × 53" high, weighs about 136 lb empty and about 2,890 lb full of water. It occupies exactly the same floor space as a 275 gallon tote while carrying 20 % more product, which usually makes it cheaper per gallon shipped and stored.

The economics of the extra seven inches
Freight, storage and handling are all charged by the pallet position, not by the gallon. A 330 costs the same to ship and the same to store as a 275 while carrying 55 more gallons, so every fixed cost in your supply chain drops by about 17 % per gallon the moment you switch.

The purchase price difference between the two is typically 10–20 %, so the switch pays for itself on freight alone before you count storage or handling.
The three things that stop people switching
- Rack beam spacing. A 53-inch tote plus clearance needs about 58 inches of beam opening. Plenty of racking is set at 54. Measure before you order — this is the single most common reason a 330 order comes back.
- Door and trailer clearance. Double-stacked 330s stand about 106 inches. A 110-inch door is comfortable; a 106-inch door is a bad afternoon.
- Gross weight per position. At 2,890 lb on water, and more on a dense product, some older racking is out of rating in a single position. Check the load plate, not your memory.

?Common questions
Questions people actually ask
Can I mix 275s and 330s on one load?
Yes, and it is common. Load them in separate rows rather than alternating so the double-stack heights stay consistent and the straps sit level.
Are 330 gallon totes harder to find used?
Slightly. They are perhaps a quarter of the used market against the 275's two thirds, so availability in a specific grade is tighter. Give us a week of notice on larger 330 orders in food grade.
Does the taller bottle bulge more?
There is more hydrostatic head at the base — about 15 % more pressure at the floor than a 275 — so a 330 will show slightly more sidewall deflection when filled. It is designed for it. What it does mean is that a damaged 330 fails more dramatically than a damaged 275, so grade matters a little more.
